Killer SMS Christmas Greetings

Ah! It's Christmastide! Time for festivity, celebrations, gifts, and killer SMS Christmas greetings! Bless that great country Finland for starting the remarkable short message service in 1993! Bless the global mobile phone user community for their exceptional, devoted, and path-breaking gr8 textual vocabulary so that the lovesick can por da luv 2 him or her! And of course, thank Jesus of Nazareth for giving us the day on which butterflies in the stomach flutter, carols are sung with religious joy, and family reunions bring back memories to cherish for life!

Since the last several years what makes my heart drenched with happiness the most, besides the gifts and the reunions, are the unabated floods of the unique SMSs that start trickling from the 1st day of December to ultimately drown me by the 25th. Text, multimedia, and voice SMSs all together make such a beautiful symphony that it surpasses Beethoven's symphony no.9. The pleasure that I derive from reading Shakespeare's Hamlet saying, "To be or not to be," is mild compared to the pleasure that I gain from reading the SMS "2b or nt 2b". Disapprovals are considered blatant when you laugh out loud in anybody's face, which can be subtle in text as "lol". PUAs (pick up artists) are popular to use opening lines in the form of SMS greetings for their first move to judge the prospect of facing a charge of sexual harassment before they advance further. Generally, cloaked SMSs are known as killer SMSs. They are invariably double entendres with a sexual connotation or a risqué involved. The first meaning is innocent but the second meaning is not that decent and is exactly what the sender of the SMS actually means. For example, "The Lord sacrificed his life for the love of us. Let us remember this and sacrifice our lives for the loves of each other. Merry Christmas." This is a purely decent SMS when given to one's family, but the meaning drastically changes if given to someone with an intention of an affair.

Killer SMSs exhibit the most frequency during Christmas. Perhaps due to general bonhomie during this time, the human body pumps higher levels of adrenaline and creative juices mingle with the cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system, making persons highly imaginative, highly romantic, and highly social. Killer SMS Christmas greetings are double meaning messages with the sole purpose of killing at point blank range under the mask of sociability and amicability. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Thy word is Love. May your Love light my path now and forever!Happy Christmas." or "He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. Therefore, let us love. Merry X-mas." or "There is a time and a place for everything under the sun. The time is Christmas and the place is in your heart. Happy Christmas!" Such killer SMSs are known to break or make many relationships.

However, if two or more events combine then they become much more potent and may connote meanings at many different levels. They may be of many kinds, political, medical, psychological, etc. For example, "The snow is white, Santa's beard is white, and the White House is white. Rest all is colored in the colors of God. Merry Christmas." Here the second meaning is obviously political and may not go well with certain audiences, but then that is the sole purpose of sending such political double entendre killer SMS Christmas greetings. Again, they may be of the medical kind. For example, "The human brain has a left lobe and a right lobe. My left is not functioning right and there is nothing left in my right. That's why I think about you from my heart. Hearty Christmas!" An example of a psychological kind would be, "Freud's id, ego, and superego seem to be based wholly on sex. Let us meet and discuss why Freud seemed so obsessed with sex. Happy XXX-mas!" Thus, we find that killerSMS Christmas greetings say something else and mean something else. They are of all types, shades, hues and colors.

However, I personally find the most pleasurable are the ones that say and mean the same thing and kill in a positive way. For example, "Hey mom! I am coming home with Steve, Richard and Susan! Merry Christmas!- Rebecca." When mom gets this SMS from her daughter Rebecca who is coming for a family reunion along with her husband Steve and children Richard and Susan, she is so overwhelmed with happiness that she has to put her hand on her chest to steady the fast heartbeats. Such positive killer SMS Christmas greetings are perennial, favorites, and classics.

Merry Christmas.

Nokia turns up the heat on Apple with launch of N900

Posted: 27 Aug 2009 11:21 AM PDT

nokia N900Nokia's ongoing fight against Apple's iPhone intensified today with the release of a new touchscreen phone that it claims offers the power of a personal computer on a mobile phone.

The N900, which will be out in October and is expected to be sold by several of the UK's five wireless networks in the run-up to Christmas, is the first smartphone developed by the Finnish company that uses software based on the open-source Linux platform. According to its technical specifications it should also be at least as fast and powerful as Apple's top device.

Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, has previously used its version of Linux – called Maemo – on a range of pocket computers such as the N800, which have not been strong sellers because they lack mobile-phone connectivity. Its smartphones, meanwhile, have always been based on its Symbian platform.

But the runaway success of the iPhone and the development by RIM, maker of the popular BlackBerry corporate email device, of more affordable handsets have put intense pressure on Nokia to broaden its range of devices and experiment with new platforms.

Last week, Nokia announced that it would integrate Microsoft's Office suite of applications onto its mobile phones, in an attempt to take on RIM in the corporate market. Earlier this week the company launched its first laptop computer, the Nokia Booklet 3G.

Its first touchscreen phone – the Nokia 5800 – has sold well but failed to attract the sort of "must have" cachet enjoyed by the iPhone. That phone has now been joined by the N97, which (like the new N900) has a slide-out keypad, and the Nokia 5530 which includes Nokia's music service Comes With Music. They will be followed later this year by another touchscreen device, the Nokia 5230.

The N900, however, is a higher specification phone, as befits its €500 (£440) retail price – a sum that will be heavily subsidised by the mobile phone companies to the point that it is likely to be free to anyone signing up to an 18-month contract. Its 5 megapixel camera beats the 2 megapixel device on the 5230 and the 3.2 megapixel cameras on the original 5800 and the 5530, but is the same as the camera found on the N97. Also like the N97, 5800 and 5230, the N900 is a 3G phone. (The 5530 is not.) The N900 has 32GB of storage, which is expandable up to 48GB via a microSD card.

The big difference between the N900 and the other Nokia touchscreen phones, however, is likely to come in its speed of processing and multi-tasking. The use of Linux coupled with a better processor makes the N900 – on paper – a much better phone than the N97, which has been criticised by some techies as clunky and slow.

Nokia says its Maemo 5 software means users can have dozens of application windows open and running simultaneously. The N900 has an ARM Cortex-A8 chip, which should be at least a third faster than the processor in the N97 and is the chip used in the iPhone.

It also has 256MB of RAM – double the capacity of the N97 and the same as the iPhone – with Nokia saying the total memory available to applications is actually 1GB as it has virtual memory capabilities.

The N900, however, is bulkier than the iPhone, coming in at 18mm thick compared with the iPhone 3Gs's 12.3mm, and weighing 181g compared with the iPhone's 135g. It is about the same length and width.

"With Linux software, Mozilla-based browser technology and now also with cellular connectivity, the Nokia N900 delivers a powerful mobile experience," said Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice-president of markets at Nokia. "What we have with Maemo is something that is fusing the power of the computer, the internet and the mobile phone, and it is great to see that it is evolving in exciting ways."

Salman khan doesn’t like Katrina kaif wear small skirt

Posted: 27 Aug 2009 11:17 AM PDT

Katrina kaif small skirtYou may wonder what has gone wrong with Salman Khan when he said that he doesn't watch his girlfriend Katrina Kaif's films. In fact, his feedback would be invaluable but he has his own reason for shying away from her films. The reason is - he doesn't like to see her wearing sexy and small skirt.

Salman admitted that he doesn't watch Katrina's film. But why? He said that he once watched her film and she was wearing a small skirt, which he didn't quite like. Meanwhile, he is aware that he has to let it go sometimes. He is left with no option but to keep away from such films. He added that he could make out the genre of her film from the promos and stay away if necessary.

The reports that Salman was guiding Katrina was right as he admitted that he did help her initially. However, he said that he doesn't interfere in her work anymore, as she's grown up and has good scene of choice.

Salman said that Katrina used to ask him to check out a couple of her scenes due her problem with dubbing but he has stopped it now, as he doesn't want to be labelled as an aggressive boyfriend who barges into his girlfriend's sets.

us open draw 2009 | It's tennis time at the U.S. Open

In 2004 the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote a story about a 13-year-old tennis player, Asia Muhammad. Thankfully the hypse machine didn't go into overdrive. Muhammad has taken her time developing her game.

Now she's trying to play her way into the main draw of the U.S. Open. Muhammad, of Henderson, Nev., beat Argentina's Jorgelina-Cravero 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, Wednesday in the 128-player U.S. Open qualifying tournament. Muhammad received a wild-card invitation into the qualifying tournament and also a wild-card spot in the main draw of the U.S. Open women's doubles tournament with Christina McHale of Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

Muhammad needs to win two more qualifying rounds to earn one of 16 spots available to qualifiers in the main singles draw. Next up for her will be Anastasia Rodionova, the 30th-seeded player.

Adam Peterson, who used to coach Lindsay Davenport and who is now the United States Tennis Assn.'s Training Center West national coach, said he was impressed by Muhammad's play Wednesday. "Her fitness level pulled her through the third set," Peterson said.

Nokia N900 | Linux-based OS drives new Nokia N900

Posted: 27 Aug 2009 10:24 AM PDT

Nokia N900With its new N900 handset, Nokia is playing up the Linux angle.

Part cell phone, part computer, the N900 takes advantage of Nokia's Linux-based Maemo operating system to offer multitasking, Web browsing, a touch screen, and slide-out keyboard.

Running the open-source Maemo 5 software, it can provide more of a PC-like experience on a small device, according to Nokia. The Maemo OS lets people juggle several applications at the same time.

"The Nokia N900 shows where we are going with Maemo, and we'll continue to work with the community to push the software forward," Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia's executive vice president for markets, said in a statement. "What we have with Maemo is something that is fusing the power of the computer, the Internet and the mobile phone."

Nokia's Maemo OS is separate from the company's Symbian OS for smartphones, though the company has said it wants to make it easier for developers to write applications for both.

The specs on the N900, announced Thursday, include an ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 1GB of application memory, 32GB of storage (expandable to 48GB with a MicroSD card), and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Although Nokia dubs the device a tablet, it measures 4.4 inches by 2.4 inches and features a 3.5-inch widescreen display.Nokia N900

Equipped with a Mozilla browser and Adobe Flash 9.4 support, the device provides 10/2 High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) for mobile broadband speed, along with wireless LAN connectivity.

The handset also sports a 5-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens.

Nokia will offer the N900 in selected markets starting in October for 500 euros (around $712). The device will be on display at Nokia World in Germany next week.

The N900 is the next generation follow-on from Nokia's N800 and N810, which were released in 2007. The N800 sells for around $300, while the N810 goes for about $400.

Posted: 27 Aug 2009 10:19 AM PDT

Harley-Davidson to Start Selling Motorcycles in India Harley-Davidson Inc., the biggest U.S. motorcycle maker, plans to start sales in India from next year as it seeks growth in emerging markets to offset a slump in domestic demand.

Harley will import the motorcycles, accessories and riding gear for sale in India, the Milwaukee-based company said in an e-mailed statement today. The company has set up an Indian unit in Gurgaon, near New Delhi.

The company will initially set up dealerships in cities including Mumbai and New Delhi as it aims to tap demand from the affluent for models such as Fat Boy and Cross Bones cruisers, which can cost more than $40,000 in the U.S. when customized. Harley's second-quarter U.S. sales fell 35 percent amid rising unemployment and a recession.

"India is important to our long-term vision of being a truly global company," Keith Wandell, president and chief executive officer, said in the statement.

Harley appointed Anoop Prakash as managing director of the India unit, the statement said. - source -http://www.bloomberg.com
